Whoops...

Guess I've been too busy with life lately....

I'm in college now which eats up a lot of my time, but still crafting!
And now I'm able to sell my things at my local flea market!
Some of what I've been up too...

Just ya' know... expanding on the crafts a little bit.

Cheers!

Felt Flower

A couple weeks ago I saw a tutorial on Holidash for a Mother's Day Corsage: Felt Flower Brooch, and thought it was a pretty clever idea, so I gave it a shot.

I ended up straying a bit from the tutorial. Instead of fabric glue, I used a glue gun. Originally I started out with Liquid Stitch and Fabric Stretch glue, but neither would hold. As you can also see in the second picture, I also used less petals then in the tutorial. The biggest, and intentional difference, is that I made my flower into a hair clip rather then a brooch (nothing shocking, just a change in hardware).

In the end, the flower came out pretty good looking, but a little rough around the edges. I'm sure that when I repeat this it'll come out looking cleaner.

Some New Things

I haven't been updating as often as I intended to, but I did make some new things since last post!
I mainly made hair combs, but there's a headband too.

Other then that, I can't think of much to say. Today I managed to get some fabric off a friend who made me some awesome aprons for Christmas '09 and I'm excited to do something with them, particularly a embroidered carpet-bag like scrap that I plan on turning into a bow clip.

Also, I've had and took the opportunity to go to Coachella this year, so expect some bikini tops/ modded t-shirts in the future!

One man's trash....

Today I came across a plastic baggy I took off a friend a couple months ago that was filled with oodles of useful (and useless) things. So far, the only things that got my gears going were the pearly buttons and the crystals (which were apparently at some point earrings...), but alas, I have done nothing with them yet. Below is just a few of the things from the bag, mostly stuff I'm pretty sure I can do something with..... although whether they'll become something worthwhile or trash is yet to be seen.

I also found these miniture wooden flour pots I picked up a while ago, but I can't remember where (probably at a Michale's or Joann's). My idea for them is to become little flower key chains, and I've been searching for ideas on how to go about that. I figure I can try and make flours for the pots out of clay, like I saw on Dutchbaby's Blog  (the 6th picture down), or maybe try a fabric approach with a smaller version of the DIY Mother's Day Corsage on Holidash. The pots already have little holes in the bottoms, so attaching shouldn't be a problem.

Sailors & Sea Creatures

A few days after Christmas I decided to go to Michale's to hopefully get some good finds while they had an entire store sale. I was able to find some things I knew I'd use in the future, but nothing that really inspired me that much. It wasn't until today, when I found some blue ribbon from a Christmas gift, that I had any idea of what to do.

The ribbon reminded me of some charms I'd bought at Michale's, Jolee's Jewels, and so I sat down for a few hours today and had at it!

In the end, I only ended up with two bows. Originally I had three, but I didn't like the wheel and anchor separate, and though they looked better combined. The octopus was pretty cool looking on its own, but I think I might redo the ribbon; it didn't come out as nice looking on the clip like the wheel and anchor did and looks a little flat.....

Ahoy!

As a first ever blog post, I'm sure this'll have a few awkward bumps and bruises, but bear with me.

To start off, I'm a full time student getting ready to set out for college in a few months, and a homemaker/crafter. I live on the west coast of the United States, and I spend most of my time out and about (that is, when I'm not in school). I love to create things, particularly in fashion and cooking. Lately, I've been entertaining the idea of starting a little business with the things I create, but I think I might save that for a later date.

For the longest time I've stayed away from blogs, content with my own little world of creation, but now as I scour through the internet more and more everyday I realize blogging is a great way to teach and learn new things, to meet people with the same interests, and to get some new ideas to play around with. Once I get this thing going (which is hopefully in a few days), I plan to blog about ideas, what inspired those ideas, the things I make/want to make, and how I make them.

And just as a little closer, I have some pictures that I think fit well with this post! The first is a picture of the Northern California coast line (although still the west coast, far from my home), the second, an encrusted pork tenderloin roast I made for dinner one night, and the last is a simple hair clip I made.
